Six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning turned a 4-0 contest between two traditional ACAC baseball powers into a short night as the Heritage Patriots knocked off the South Adams Starfires 10-0 in five innings via the mercy rule.
Owen Wanner pitched for South Adams, but his outing was spoiled by four errors, with the mistakes adding up to seven unearned runs. The hard-throwing junior did strike out eight on a night when Wanner’s final delivery pushed him over the 100-pitch mark.
Noah Redmon was the man on the mound for the Patriots, and he out-dueled Wanner, striking out eleven and allowing just three hits, while walking just one.
Matt Steiner had two of the three hits for the Starfires, who dropped back below .500 at 6-7. The team travels to Southwood Thursday.
