Cade Van De Weg was wild but powerful, striking out eight while also walking eight, but the Jet bats scored eight runs as Adams Central won in the ACAC against Southern Wells, 8-5.
Van De Weg took the mound in the bottom of the fourth with his team leading 4-0, but he couldn’t get out of the inning as the Raiders scored five times and the lefty had to give way to Ryan Black. The quarterback got the two outs he needed to while limiting the damage and Logan Uhlman threw three scoreless innings to pick up the victory as the Jets came back to take the game, scoring runs in each of the last three innings.
It didn’t take long for Adams Central to erase the Southern Wells lead, as Jack Hamilton tripled on the second pitch of the next half inning and was then driven in by Ryan Tester.
Van De Weg helped his team out with the bat in the sixth, driving in a run with two outs and the Jets scored twice more in the seventh to secure the victory.
The Jets are on the road for a doubleheader Saturday at Monroe Central.
