An eight-run second inning helped the South Adams Starfires climb back above .500 as they defeated Bluffton in just five innings with a grand slam by Bekah Patterson.Â
Patterson’s slam off Averi Petty came in that second inning, where the Stars broke the game wide open, batting around despite picking up just three hits. The home run was surprisingly the first hit in the inning as Petty had walked the bases loaded.Â
Walks were the eventual doom for Bluffton in the fifth inning, too, with Petty walking the 8 and 9 batters in the lineup, then giving up a double to Macy Pries, setting up Patterson for the walk-off hit. There was no need, however, because before Patterson could put the ball on the bat, Kenzie Neuenschwander scampered home for the mercy-rule-invoking run.
South Adams will host Elwood in a doubleheader with the first game being broadcast live on WZBD at 11 a.m.
