A Decatur business that has failed to live up to its commitment drew praise from city officials at a recent meeting of city council.
TekniPlex, the former Dolco Packaging firm located in Industrial Park I, has struggled with a problem faced by many other businesses: a shortage of workers.
TekniPlex recently submitted its CF-1 abatement form to city council. The company previously had been awarded a tax abatement by council and businesses receiving the tax break are required to annually submit a CF-1 form to show how they have lived up to the commitments made in order to receive the abatement.
TekniPlex’s CF-1 shows its has met its financial promises, but not the employee numbers it gave, Mayor Dan Rickord said. That, however, is the fault of the old bugaboo, a labor shortage.
“They said ‘if you can find ’em, we’ll take ’em,’” Rickord noted. “They’ve held up their part of the bargain financially.
“They’ve been a great part of our community for years.”
Council approved the CF-1 form.
Council also approved on third and final reading an ordinance which makes changes in ingress and egress regulations for new subdivisions.
Building/Zoning Superintendent Curt Witte pointed out at a recent meeting that “anything that is established will be grandfathered in.”
