Last week’s auction was a successful one for the county as several tracts of land were purchased above the required assessed price. While additional tracts will require approval by county government, it seems likely that the county has been successful in liquidating the land, deemed no longer needed by local government. Once part of a larger county home facility, the farmland just south of US 33 had been rented out for decades, but the County Council decided it was time for the land to be sold.
Krueckeberg Auction took care of the sale, which was held at the County Fairgrounds. One small parcel, labeled Parcel #1, went for $19,327/acre, while the larger tracts brought $14,983/acre and $12,007/acre. The bid of just over $12,000/acre will require county approval for sale after it did not quite reach the minimum assessed value.
