Youngsters at Decatur’s city swimming pool recently got a soaking of a different kind ā from a fire truck!
(The pool remained closed Tuesday due to a problem with a pump motor.)
The city’s new aerial ladder truck hosed down some 40 swimmers over a 30-minute period on July 8.
Mayor Dan Rickord got involved, but on the dry side of the fun ā he was in the ladder’s bucket as the spraying went on.
Fire Chief Jeff Sheets said this was the third year the event was held at the city pool.

The $2.5 million aerial truck only recently arrived at the city fire department.
The truck measures 43 feet in length and is 11 feet, 4 inches high. It weighs in at 76,000 pounds.

It can take a firefighter 100 feet into the air.
