The Adams Central defense came up with all the stops and Thomas Laughlin carried the ball over the goal line three times in the second half to give the defending state champion Jets an impressive 35-14 over ACAC rivals Bluffton in the local 2A sectional semifinal Friday.

The game was dominated by Jamison Roach, who finished with a spectacular 216 yards rushing for the visitors. He scored twice in the first half to ensure that the Jets had the upper hand early.

Bluffton tied the game at 7-7 by answering Roach’s long touchdown run with a kickoff return for their own score, but they only scored one more time after that – a 14-play, 91-yard drive in the third quarter when they were already down two scores.

The Jets held Axton Beste to just 87 yards passing, with Joey Everett picking up an interception to pile on more pressure. Bluffton only had 99 yards rushing in the game. Beste capped off the long drive in the third quarter with a short touchdown run.

The potent part of the AC offense was the big play, allowing the Jets to get in or near the red zone and then hand the ball off to Laughlin for his scores. Braylend Reber had a catch for 30 yards, Ashton Yergler had one for 43 and Laughlin also had a gain of 23 on the ground.

Zander Schwartz led the way in tackles for the Jets, while Cam Fravel was right behind him, adding two tackles for loss.

The Jets will face a very familiar Eastside team in the sectional championship game at home in Monroe next week on 92.7 FM, WZBD.
