Bellmont’s top four runners ran career bests and the Braves took second place in the team race, while Adams Central finished just high enough to advance as a team, despite not having a fully healthy Tyler Schwartz at the Delta cross country sectional Saturday.

Norwell won the boys’ race with four placers in the top ten, while Emmett Glenn took third overall for the Braves, who had three runners under 17 minutes for the first time this season.

In the girls’ race, it was Norwell and Bluffton who were among the advancing five teams, while the three Adams County teams each had one individual advance.

We’ll break down the results, starting with the boys.
Boys’ Race
-Emmett Glenn cut a couple of seconds from his career mark, set back at the NE8 meet, to lead the Braves.

-Frank Heimann came in 1.6 seconds better than last week’s race at Delta, which had served his career PR.

-Owen Adams made a huge cut, dropping 26 seconds from last week’s race at Delta, which was his PR.

-Joe Kozlowski joined Glenn and Heimann in the sub-17 club, dropping 22 seconds from last week’s race.

-All five of Adams Central’s scoring runners turned in a career PR for an outstanding day, leading the Jets to a team regional appearance for just the second time in school history. With Tyler Schwartz back from injury, the Jets looked well on their way to advancing until the senior leader tweaked a knee injury and had to suffer through the final kilometer, falling out of the scoring places.

Head coach Chris Terry told WZBD:
A heroic effort from Phillip Bayer to score as our fifth and close the final stretch hard, gaining points in the final 200 meters. This group of guys locked in this year and started battling together in June. This was their goal since the summer and we couldn’t be prouder that they got the job done.

South Adams was able to keep the season alive with Carson Laux advancing as an individual with a new PR, six seconds faster than his previous mark.

Jacob Heflin and Gabe Peralez also ran career bests for South Adams.

Girls’ Race
Adams Central had an outstanding team race, but the field was simply too strong for the Jets to advance as a team to next week’s regional. All six girls ran career PRs, with Adi Rumschlag leading the way with a 21:27 and advancing as an individual.
South Adams got a career mark from Hadley Sprunger, who cut 25 seconds from her previous mark to make the cut for next week.

Bellmont’s sister duo – senior Lilly Franz and sophomore Haylee Franz – turned in a pair of career bests. Lilly cut four seconds in her final high school race, while Haylee cut 32 seconds.

Bridget Juengel also rounded out her career with her first sub-22 5K in high school.

Bristol Scherry led the Braves and advanced with a 12-second cut to her career mark.
