MONROE – Jami Roach threw for two touchdowns and ran for a pair as the Adams Central Jets bounced back from last week’s loss to beat Southern Wells at home, 35-7.
Defensively Roach also contributed to a Jet effort that included nine tackles for loss and limiting the Raiders to just 154 yards of offense.

Adams Central scored on the final play of the first quarter to take a 21-0 lead and they triggered a running clock in the second half with time to spare in the second quarter.

Both of Roach’s touchdown passes were beautiful downfield throws caught near the goal line. He hit Barrett Collier from 45 yards out to make it 21-0 and Reece Hammond from 40 late in the first half.
Roach’s 41-yard run quickly concluded the team’s second drive with a score and his QB sneak from the half-yard line made it 28-0 Adams Central early in the second quarter.

About the only thing that went poorly for the Jets was a botched field goal attempt on the first drive of the second half, with Roach having to improvise and switch from holder to ball carrier. He came up just short and the Jets were forced to turn the ball over on downs.

For Southern Wells, there was a slew of penalties and bad snaps that prevented them from taking part fully in the game. Several of the Jets’ tackles for loss happened as QB Isaac VanDeman was picking the ball up off the ground.
Ryker Dollar’s 58-yard scamper up the middle against the AC B defense was the only scoring for the visitors. Dollar finished with 111 yards rushing.
VanDeman had 18 yards rushing and was 2 of 3 passing for just 13 yards.

Roach finished with 67 yards on five carries to lead the Jets’ ground attack. He was 5 of 9 in the air for 101 yards, picking up 85 of them on the two long scoring plays.

The Jets spread the touches out, giving Xander Schwartz just five (40 yards), Godfrey Shoaf eight (36 yards) and Reece Hammond two (18 yards).

Colston Pruitt had a nice game for the Jets with a big kick return, a 15-yard catch and a brief stint as the backup quarterback. He also had two tackles on defense.
The Jets will now take their best shot at Bluffton in Week 8. They’ll have the added benefit of playing in front of their home crowd as they try to take down the undefeated Tigers. The two teams could very well meet again as soon as Week 10 for the first round of sectional.
