South Adams overcame a pair of 43s by Adams Central’s Lily Johnson and Adrienne Johnson to beat the Jets by one stroke thanks to putting all four scorers in the 40s as the two home teams at Wabash Valley went head to head.
The win for SA wrapped up an unbeaten regular season in the head-to-head matchups with the six other ACAC schools.
Coach Chris Toledo’s team ended the night at 190 and it was one stroke better than coach Mary Girod’s Jets in one of those unique high school golf matches where two teams who share a home course leave it all on the Front Nine.
Londyn Smith (pictured below) had two birdies and a nice par on the short ninth hole for the victorious Stars to finish one stroke behind the two Johnsons, who each shot their best round of the year on the front.
Lily Johnson made a birdie on No. 9 to give the Jets a chance at winning, but it was the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 who all came in with solid scores for the Stars that led to the rivalry win.
Audrey Orr (pictured above) also had a season best on the Front Nine for the Stars, who were just three strokes off their season team best from the Southern Wells match.
Kathrynn Orr (SA) and Ellie Lengerich (AC) had outstanding rounds in the JV match.
Both teams will play a shortened ACAC tournament on the Back Nine at Cross Creek on Wednesday night.
