Arlen and Christine Horsewood have been proud members of the Hoagland community for more than five decades and are honored to serve as this year’s Hoagland Days Grand Marshals. Married in 1970, they have built a life centered on family, service, and community involvement. Together, they are the proud parents of three daughters, grandparents of six grandchildren, and great-grandparents of two boys.

Dr. Arlen Horsewood began his dental career in 1975 after Hoagland community leaders helped establish a local dental office for him. The office was built in Hoagland, and he purchased the practice the following year. In 1987, the Horsewood family officially made Hoagland their home. Arlen credits the community not only for his successful career, but also for the lifelong friendships and opportunity to care for generations of local families through his dental practice.
Christine previously worked as a phlebotomist at Methodist Hospital before becoming heavily involved in community activities alongside Arlen. Over the years, she and Arlen have volunteered countless hours supporting Hoagland Days and many other local events. Arlen helped establish the Hoagland Days Demolition Derby in 1983, served as chairman of both Hoagland Days and Oktoberfest, and was active in the local Lions Club chapter. Christine chaired the Hoagland Days Queen Contest and is also remembered for winning the 1985 Demolition Derby behind the wheel of a pink 1972 Cadillac.
The Horsewoods say Hoagland’s welcoming spirit, community pride, and strong sense of togetherness are what make the town special. They still cherish the longtime slogan, “Small Town, Big Heart,” and believe it continues to reflect Hoagland today. Grateful for the support their family has received over the years, they are proud to remain part of Hoagland’s traditions and continued growth.
