Elaine Bickel hit an inside the park homer to kick off the scoring in Thursday night’s game between her Patriots and the visiting Adams Central Jets and Hadlee Shipp threw six shutout innings to set up the home team for a convincing 5-1 win.
The victory kept the Patriots in the running for the ACAC title as they moved to 2-1 to stay in third place in the conference.

After Hadlee Shipp worked around a pair of walks in the top half of the first, Elaine Bickel hit a ball to left field that dipped just in front of a hard-charging left fielder and bounced to the fence.

Bickel never stopped running, even after she crossed home plate (see gallery below). She zoomed to the dugout for high fives and the Patriots were off and running.

The Patriots capitalized on Adams Central mistakes later in the game, scoring on passed balls and moving runners along with productive outs. They scored three runs in the bottom of the third, an inning that started with a leadoff triple by Shipp.

Addie Bacon threw the final inning for the Patriots and while the Jets put four of the first five batters on base, she allowed just one run, striking out the final two batters of the game for the Heritage win.

Bacon was the only Heritage batter with two hits, both singles. Isabella Myers had a double in the winning effort.

Addi Jordan took the loss for the Jets, throwing six innings and allowing six hits. She struck out one.

The Jets are now 1-10 on the year.
