DECATUR – Bellmont turned a close game at home (2-0 after two innings) into a blowout with a nine-run third inning as the Braves took advantage of eight Adams Central errors and freshman Adi Radecki mowed down the Jet lineup in relief for five Ks in a 16-0 rivalry victory Monday night.

Finnley Godsey scored from the leadoff spot in the bottom of the first inning and Izzy Isch used heads-up baserunning to make it 2-0 against her old teammates, staking Bellmont starter Isabelle Buuck to an early lead.

The Jets responded, however, and put two runners on in the second, but Buuck got out of the inning. The visitors did the same in the top of the third, prompting coach Mindy Buuck to make a switch in the circle to the freshman, Radecki. The hard-throwing ninth grader struck out five in the game, but her most vital contribution was leaving the runners stranded in the third.
Getting out of the jam, the Braves broke the game open in the bottom of the frame. A pair of RBI triples by Taylor Sutter and Hayden DeBolt made the score 7-0 and by the time Sutter came back up in the inning, she was able to make it 10-0 with another RBI, later scoring on one of eight AC errors to finish off a nine-run third.

Bellmont added five more in the fourth with yet another RBI from Sutter, along with a run-scoring single from pinch hitter Aamaya Brewer to push the 16th run of the night across the plate.

Adams Central loaded the bases in the fifth with two outs, hoping to put up a crooked number and keep playing, but Radecki got Londin Nussbaum to ground out to Mia Fullenkamp, who was subbed into the game late, for the final out.
The Jets dropped to 0-3, while Bellmont will head to Concordia Thursday with an even 2-2 record.

Friday’s Bellmont game against Mississinewa will be broadcast on WZBD, 92.7 FM.
