FORT WAYNE – The Heritage Patriots were well on their way to their first victory of the season with a 5-0 lead after the top of the third inning, but it was all Northrop Bruins the rest of the way out as the hosts went on to a 14-8 comeback victory.
Addie Bacon pitched very well in the opening frames and had the Patriots in that winning position on the road, but the defense behind here let her down, and she gave up all nine of her runs in the unearned fashion over the next two innings, with the Bruins taking a 9-6 lead.

Lynneah Whitacre helped the team out of a jam in the first with a nice tag at third (see above) to get a greedy runner.
Bacon had scored the first run of the game with a heads-up baserunning play in the first (see below).

Calleigh Hirschy had put the Patriots up 2-0 in the first and Teaghan O’Shaughnessey’s double in the top of the third made it 5-0.

Hadlee Shipp pitched the final two innings for Heritage, but she was hit for five runs, striking out one.
The Patriots scored two consolation runs in the top of the seventh with O’Shaughnessey knocking in Sydney Martin after Martin had an RBI double.

Martin finished 3-for-4 on the night with a pair of runs scored, scoring both times on O’Shaughnessey’s two hits.
The loss dropped the Patriots to 0-2 ahead of their home opener against New Haven Thursday night.
