The latest session of the Decatur Fire Department’s fire safety education program is underway at the Survive Alive House in Safety Park, part of the Worthman Field complex.
A total of 12 sessions will be held, continuing through Nov. 24.
Fourth graders from throughout Adams County are given the safety information.
As many as 450-500 youngsters attend each year.

“Our program teaches E.D.I.T.H, (Exit Drill In The Home), which means working smoke detectors, two ways out of the home, a safe meeting place, and the proper way to use 911,” Decatur Fire Chief Jeff Sheets has explained.
The program is open to students from all three public school systems in the county, along with parochial school students, home schoolers, Amish students and youngsters with special needs.
Chaperones also participate.
Well over 10,000 students have received the safety training from the program which began in 2000.
