Sectional basketball returned for high school boys across the Hoosier State, but two Adams County teams were only able to enjoy the occasion for one night as both South Adams and Adams Central were knocked out of the state tournament in back-to-back quarterfinals Tuesday.

The host Bluffton Tigers knocked off South Adams by a 60-35 score and Whitko took out Adams Central, 54-40 in the second game.

Bluffton will take on Woodlan in the first semifinal game Friday. The Tigers have already beaten Woodlan this season.

The loss for the Starfires ended the team’s season with a 9-13 record.

AC Seniors play final game for first-year head coach Adams
For Adams Central, it was a tale of two very different quarters in the first half. The Jets got nine points from Braylend Reber in the opening quarter and jumped out to a 14-5 hot start.

It was the exact opposite, however, in the second quarter, where the Jets managed just a single bucket from Reber and a free throw by the senior to turn their early lead into a 21-17 deficit.

The Jets stayed in the game with their third-quarter performance, but the fourth quarter was all Wildcats, as Whitko won by 14.

Braylend Reber led all scorers with 24 in the final game of his storied Adams Central basketball career.
Whitko Scoring: Laukhuf 15, Cox 13, Long 9, Hinger 8, Yates 5, Day 4
Adams Central Scoring: Reber 24, Johnson 8, Becher 3, Geels 3, Manley 2
