Cameron Summers had a career night against the Bishop Dwenger Saints Tuesday night, but the Bellmont Braves could not find the defense to hold back their hosts, falling 69-60 in non-conference play.

Playing on the road in the penultimate game of the regular season, the Braves went to Summers early and got threes from Daniel Selking and Isaac Baker to take an early lead at the end of the first.

Selking and Summers continued their hot start with all 15 Bellmont points, but the defense dared Lewis Morris to beat them and he did just that. The big man stepped up and knocked down two undefended threes, spurring the Saints to a 20-point performance to take a 33-31 lead.

A three from deep in the corner by Summers gave Bellmont a 37-33 lead early in the second half, but George Poiry had all the answers in the rest of the third quarter. His dipsy doo in the lane around a defender tied it up at 37 and he went on to score eight more points in the third to keep Dwenger in front.

Two threes by Tommy Coffman early in the fourth put Dwenger up 56-47 and sealed the deal for the home team.

The loss dropped the Braves to 7-15 on the season. They’ll round out the regular season against #11 Jay County Friday for their Senior Night. Bellmont will host the local 3A Sectional. The Braves will not play on the opening night (Tuesday). They’ll await the New Haven Bulldogs, who will be heavy favorites to advance against Mississinewa.
