A great effort at the Stardome Tuesday night by South Adams fell just short of a sensational win against one of the best area teams in 1A as Monroe Central had just enough to beat the Starfires, 65-60.
“It was one of those games that you love being part of,” noted SA head coach Kyle Roe. “We almost pulled off the upset. It was an instant classic of a game …. we were just on the wrong side of it in the end.”

Tytus Lehman had a big fourth quarter as he led the home team with 22 points.
The Stars trailed 51-45 going into the final frame, but the Golden Bears went 6 of 8 in the final quarter from the free throw line to hold on.

Lehman knocked down four shots in the opening quarter to give the Stars an early lead, but Monroe Central pulled away and looked well on the way to victory until Lehman and Gavin Herring brought the Stars back in the second half.
Lehman’s two free throws with 26.6 seconds remaining cut the MC lead to 61-58 and it was Lehman who appeared to have created a turnover when he trapped Morgan in the corner, but a foul was called before a travel and the Monroe Central guard calmly nailed two to ice the game.
