Freshmen Sydney Bessessen and Madeline Witte, along with newcomers Collins Vossler (sophomore) and Izzy Krull (senior) all made their swim debuts for coach Norby and the Bellmont Braves at the annual season-opening Norwell Swim Invite.
The Braves took seventh place, with NE8 rivals Norwell and Columbia City taking the top two team spots.
Meanwhile, sophomore Izabella Werling swam a career best in the fly, taking ninth place.
Another sophomore, Tori McCullough, showed big gains in her events and will be a major contributor this season.
The Braves’ best showing in the relays was in the 400 Free, where Sydney Bessessen got the team off to the right start on the way to a fourth-place finish. Swimming with Izabella Werling, McCullouch and senior Ella Hockemeyer, the freshman helped the Braves to a 4:37 finish.
