The Bellmont Braves experimented with a new lineup, but it was no use against a superior Adams Central team Tuesday night and the Jets waited out a 4-1 victory in varsity play.
The Jets wrapped up the victory very early in the evening, winning the match at No. 1 singles love-love. Braxton Gerber had a competitive match with Grayden Kable, who made his singles debut just six weeks after picking up the sport. Both similarly sized, it was Gerber who got the better of his Braves counterpart at No. 3 singles.
Adams Central knocked off the new doubles pairing of Kasey Teeter and Caleb Coats with a straight-set win with Brody Isch and Mason Fruechte.

The match was not over, however, and the matchups at No. 2 singles and at No. 2 dubs entertained both teams despite the Jets already winning the team victory.
James Miller battled to win the tiebreak in the second set to stay alive against Zack Frank, but the Jets’ No. 2 ultimately won, but needed another tiebreak to do it.

“It’s a heartbreaking defeat for us,” said new Bellmont head coach Mason Vrablic. “The match was very close throughout and James showed significant improvement in ground strokes and shot placement.”
Meanwhile, on the other end of the BHS tennis complex, the doubles match between Kaden Ramsey/Raiden Knittle and Chris Espinosa/Daymon Frock was fun to watch.

Ramsey and Knittle, playing together for the first time this season, dropped the first set, but seemed to gel as the night went on. They battled back to force a tiebreaker in the second set, then won the match in the deciding set, 7-5, coming back from 4-1 down.

“That’s a great way to clinch you first match together,” noted coach Vrablic.

Bellmont will turn their focus to the NE8 when they make the long trip to Kendallville to play East Noble. Adams Central hosts Concordia on Wednesday.
