By the time the Heritage Patriots got a hit with a runner on base Monday night at Bishop Dwenger, the host Saints already held a 7-0 lead and they went on to a 9-2 win in non-conference softball play.
That hit by Libby Cain, a single, came after Hadlee Shipp and Danica Fuller both walked to lead off the top of the sixth. Prior to that, the Patriots had just one single in the second and another in the fourth off Avianna Vasquez – the Dwenger ace.

Shipp scored on Cain’s hit and Fuller came around to score in the next at-bat, using her speed to cut the lead to six runs.

The only other hit in the game for Heritage was a double by Avi Washington.
Shipp started the game in the circle and allowed ten hits, with six of the nine Dwenger runs being earned. She struck out two, walked two and hit two.
The Patriots will look to end their four-game losing streak against #5-ranked South Adams Tuesday night at home.
