Decatur native Franklin Parrish recently appeared before the Decatur Rotary Club to talk about his new book, “Brothers for Life.”
The book provides an insight into successes, experiences, hard times, inspirations, and life in general of his father, Judge Myles F. Parrish, and uncle, Dr. Richard K. Parrish.

In 1948, his father became the youngest elected circuit court judge in Indiana.
Franklin is an estate planning attorney in Walnut Creek, California.
The book talks about Parrish’s grandfather, who had glaucoma and was blinded in an operation on his eyes to treat the condition when the boys were four and six years of age, respectively.
It also describes how his father and uncle started working at a young age in order to boost household income, selling brooms, shining shoes, and later learning to and receiving licenses to barber. Ultimately, the boys put each other through school.
The book, written over three years and published by Newman Springs Publishing, came out of an attempt to share the stories with his children and to leave a legacy, Parrish told the Rotarians.

The son of Myles and Beulah Parrish, Franklin has spoken at several gatherings here, including the library and Woodcrest.
Prior to moving to California in 1982, Parrish was director of The Estate And Tax Planning Division for Lincoln National Life Insurance Company (1979-1982), and a trust officer with The Fort Wayne National Bank (1976-1979).
“Brothers for Life” is available at the Next Page Bookstore in Decatur and on Amazon. Copies may be borrowed from the Adams Public Library.
