Norwell held a slim 22-19 lead heading into the halftime talks in Friday’s sectional semifinal at the Bellmont 3A boys’ basketball sectional, but the New Haven Bulldogs came out of the lockers a different team and dominated the Knights en route to a 71-49 victory, their second of the season against their conference rival.
The key to Norwell’s success in the first half was holding superstar Jadrien Ezell to just a pair of threes, but the guard unleashed a torrent of shots in the second half, ending the game with a game-high 30 total points. He made eight threes in the contest.
New Haven outscored Norwell 25-11 in the third quarter, with every bucket made coming from behind the arc (and one free throw).
The lack of depth for Norwell also hurt their game, as they were once again held to just four scorers. The Knights were led by Josh McBride’s 22 points.

Adam McBride had nine of Norwell’s 16 points in the fourth quarter to finish with 14 points.
Garry Riley added seven points in the loss, while Owen Wallis knocked down three shots for six points.

New Haven advanced to the final to take on Marion, who won 77-60 against Heritage. The Bulldogs are now 14-10 on the year. Interestingly, when games against 4A competition are removed, New Haven are 12-3.
Norwell’s 2024-25 season ends with the Knights holding an even 12-12 record. It’s a disappointing finish to a season that saw the Knights enter the new year with an 8-2 record.
