Back on top.
The Adams Central Flying Jets returned to the top of the Hoosier gridiron heap with the state championship Friday, winning the school’s second state title and first since 2000, with some of the Jet players on this year’s teams following in their fathers’ footsteps.
The Jets used two early turnovers – a pair of first quarter interceptions to strike quickly and score two touchdowns in the first six minutes of the contest.
Touchdown runs by Matt Heiser and Aaron Hirschy capped off short drives of just 16 and 30 yards, respectively.
The defense held their ground and a more traditional, 13-play drive of 75 yards finished with a classic QB sneak on 4th down at the goal line to put Linton down three scores heading into halftime.
Linton-Stockton looked to get back in the game with a squib kick to get the ball back and the Miners scored on their first possession of the second half, but it was eventually the only time they would get on the board.
Braylon McBride threw for just 59 yards on 11 of 23 passing for the losing side.
Jamison Roach ran for three scores and 145 yards. His only pass completion was a fourth-down conversion to Braylend Reber for eight yards.
Matt Heiser finished with 90 yards rushing and he capped the scoring with his second touchdown, punching it in to trigger yet another running clock at 46-6 with four minutes to play.
Aaron Hirschy and Joey Everett each ran for 59 yards to help the Jets offense run rampant over L-S.
The four interceptions for the Jets came from four different players – Max Kaehr, Carson Schnitz, Braylend Reber and Jaret Smith.
Cam Fravel led the team in tackles and also in tackles for loss with 2.5.
The Jet defense held Linton-Stockton to just 189 yards of offense in the blowout win.
Adams Central will now be the team to beat in 2A football in Indiana next year, with the very real possibility of winning a regional title in 2025 and playing 3A football in 2026 and 2027 due to the IHSAA’s success factor.
