Bellmont took to the turf at Leo’s football stadium and played admirably against a team that is ranked 14th in the state in 2A, ultimately falling 3-1.
Xavior Palacios was busy all night, making five saves in the first half to keep the Braves to just a two-goal deficit at half time.

Looking to improve their NE8 record to 2-2, the Braves did pull a goal back in the second half when Evan Sovine scored (see gallery below) on a free kick near the corner of the box, beating the Leo keeper at nearly the same time as Gwen Laurent was doing back at the Braves’ home field.

The goal was the senior’s first of the season.
Palacios was under even more pressure in the second half, saving 9 of 10 attempts shot in his direction.

Bellmont’s final four opponents in the regular season should give the team a lift heading into the sectional. The Braves have just two wins so far, but three of the four opponents remaining have losing records.

They will host the only winning team in that group Thursday when they play Jay County in Decatur. The Patriots are 6-1.
