After losing 12-2 to Bellmont in just five innings earlier in the year, the Norwell Knights exacted some sweet revenge on the Braves by winning the sectional title in a 12-4 contest Thursday night at Oak Hill.
Sami Lemler, who was tagged for 12 runs over the four innings of rain-delayed work in the regular season against Bellmont, was outstanding Thursday, holding the Braves to just four hits in seven innings of work. Her seven strikeouts made up for four walks and two hit batsmen.
Norwell put up crooked numbers in four straight innings from the second to the fifth, building their 12-4 lead. Nevada Lenwell gave the Knights the lead with a two-run single in the second and they never looked back. Lenwell finished 3 for 4 with four RBI.
Makayla Young homered in the fifth inning to put the Knights up 10-4.
The highlights for the Braves came in the third inning. Emily Bleke cut the Norwell lead to 2-1 with a home run to center to lead off the inning and the Braves briefly took the lead at 3-2 with a bases loaded walk by Ella Franze, scoring Taylor Bauer.
The Braves’ bats fell silent after that, however, outside of a home run by Sami Christen in the fifth inning, which came directly after the Braves were caught stealing in an 8-3 game.
The loss for Bellmont ends the Braves’ season with a 15-8 record.
Norwell will play the winner of the Jay County and Yorktown game and that regional contest will be played in either Portland or Muncie.
