The local tennis sectional finally got underway after a one-day rain delay in Bluffton and the Adams Central Jets made it one step further toward their goal of winning a sectional title for the first time in three years by beating the Tigers, 4-1.

The Jets dropped the opening sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and Hillary Tobias found herself in a first set tiebreak with Hazel Pfister. The senior was not interested in having her season end and won the tiebreak 7-3, going on to win the second set and the match, 6-2.

At No. 2 singles, Melanie Bertsch bounced back and won the second and the third sets to finish off the night as a 4-1 victory for the Jets.

Both Adams Central doubles teams won in straight sets.

The win puts coach Jessica Disinger’s team into the semifinal against rival South Adams. The two ACAC teams will play opposite two NE8 teams, Bellmont and Norwell, at the same time Thursday, with the winner advancing to the Friday final.
A No. 1 singles player or a No. 1 doubles team can advance individually if they remain unbeaten in the sectional despite their team dropping out.
