Sofia Schwartz knocked in both runs and had a perfect night both at the plate and behind it as the South Adams Starfires finished 6-0 in the ACAC by beating Heritage 2-1 Thursday on the south side of Berne.

Schwartz’s home run to center field to lead off the fourth inning broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the last run of the game as both Danica Fuller and Addie Baker were at their best for much of the night inside the circle.

Fuller scored the first run of the game with two outs in the top of the first after working a walk with the bases loaded to lead off the contest. A single by Abriyah James put Fuller in scoring position and she came home on a base hit by Jasmyne Pearson to right, just beating the tag by Schwartz.

South Adams answered in the bottom of the first in much the same way as they always do – with a base hit by Macy Pries, two stolen bases and an RBI by Schwartz.

Baker allowed six hits and got into some trouble with four walks, but her eight strikeouts kept her from allowing any more runs after the first.

The closest Heritage came to scoring off Baker after the first inning was in the top of the fifth. Fuller singled and Heritage worked two walks, but it was Schwartz who made the play to get the final out with the bases loaded, flipping her facemask off and squeezing a foul ball for the third out.
Fuller drew praise from coach Jessie O’Dell after the game. She allowed six hits and walked none, striking out eight.

Neither team committed an error in what was a very clean game from start to finish.

James finished the night with two hits for the Patriots. All six hits for the visitors were singles.
The Starfires play at home again Friday against Fremont, while Heritage will prepare for Tuesday’s sectional game at Leo against Garrett.
