Bellmont Middle School distance runners Emmett Glenn and Nehemiah Richmond came home with first-place medals from the NE8 Middle School Conference Meet at New Haven Friday night. The top finish for the girls was a runner-up performance by discus thrower Braelyn Radecki.
Glenn, a sixth-grader, gradually moved up from the middle of the pack in the 1600-meter run, kicking past his last two rivals in the final lap to earn the victory in 5:05.33, over five seconds ahead of runner-up Hudson Petrie of Norwell.

Richmond ran a similarly strategic race in the 800 meters. He was in third place with 300 meters to go but passed Kyler Frey of Riverview on the back stretch and then blistered the final 100 meters to overtake Petrie for the victory in 2:16.59. Petrie was close behind in 2:17.67.

Radecki threw the discus 83-2 to earn her second-place medal. Maudie Lash of East Noble won the event with a toss of 86-4.
On the boys’ side, the Braves also received individual points from Dom McDowell (7th in the shot put with a throw of 34-6.5), Dylan Painter (6th in the 110 hurdles in 19.25), Glenn (6th in the 800 in 2:22.58), and Chris Richmond (3rd in the discus with a throw of 114-2).
