Adams Central played a pair of games in the four-team Central Noble Invite Saturday and finished in second place, beating Goshen 16-10 in the opener and falling to the host Cougars in the finals, 2-1.
Jenna Cook threw a complete game in the loss in the finals, allowing just the two earned runs in six innings of work.
The Jets’ bats were held silent by Grace Swank until the seventh inning, when Audrey Eisberg knocked in Izzy Isch to cut the Cougar lead to 2-1, but Swank got the final batter to give the home team the trophy.
Melina Peralez had two singles against Swank.
It was a much different game in the opener, where the two teams combined for 26 runs. Adams Central set the tone early with a seven-run first inning. They led 11-0 after 2.5 innings.
Brinlee Rinkenberger started the game in the circle and hit a triple. Along with a single, she drove in three runs and scored twice. Rinkenberger went three innings and was relieved by Myla Ellenberger.
Jenna Cook threw the final two innings to seal the win and get ready for the finals.
The Jets will look to rebound Tuesday at New Haven.
