The Starfires hit home runs, stole bases, bashed out extra-base hits, played clean defense and Addie Baker and Gracy Bixler racked up strikeouts on the way to a pair of wins and a trophy at the Concordia Softball Invite Saturday.
The team won the crown with a 5-0 win over Central Noble in the morning game, followed by an 8-1 defeat of Concordia Lutheran in the afternoon.
Addie Baker threw a complete game in the opener, allowing six hits and no runs while striking out nine.
The top of the lineup did the damage for South Adams, with Macy Pries and Shea Alberson each collecting two hits and stealing bases. Baker and Reagan Beitler provided the knockout blows with RBIs.
Four of the five runs came in a sixth inning rally.
The championship game against Concordia came down to a big, six-run fifth inning rally by the Stars, who were the away team on the scoreboard. Trailing 2-1, the Stars loaded the bases with hits by Beitler, Avery Brown and Pries. Shea Alberson then tripled in all three to give South Adams the lead.
After a walk was issued to Bekah Patterson, Sofia Schwartz put the game out of reach with a bomb to left.
Pries had three hits in the game to spark the Stars.
Bixler threw the first four innings and struck out four. Baker came into the circle after the big Starfire rally and did not allow a baserunner, striking out six of the nine batters she faced.
The Stars are now 8-1 and are set for an ACAC showdown with Heritage Tuesday.
