A young Bellmont team started the season with an invigorating win over rival Norwell by two strokes, while also beating Wayne, with a score of 173 at Brookwood Tuesday.
The top returning player for the team, Owen Minnick, led the way with medalist honors with his round of 40. Minnick made birdie on the Par-5 13th hole for the Braves.
“Pretty good first round we thought,” noted assistant coach Mike Macke. “Only Owen is returning from last year. Brady (Malone) is the only senior this year. We think Ben Binegar will be a solid number 2 for us. Brady should give us decent consistency in low to mid 40’s. After that, we need a couple of guys to step up and provide a good fourth score.”
Norwell finished with a score of 175 and the Knights were not officially playing the Braves, but the two rivals still played the same holes on the same night.
The Braves are set to play at Noble Hawk Thursday.
