The IHSWCA announced Monday evening that the Bellmont Braves will be the #1 seed for Saturday’s Team State event to be held at Jay County.
The entire bracket for the tournament was announced live on High School Wrestling Weekly on 92.7 FM.
The Braves’ first test will come against either Heritage Hills (#8 seed) or Maconaquah.
The Heritage Hills Patriots are 18-3 this season and a bit of an unknown, as they have no head-to-head matches with any other 2A teams in the field. 190 pounder Jett Goldsberry was defeated by Duke Myers in last year’s opening round of the individual State Finals.
The Maconaquah Braves are a team that has been defeated twice by Adams Central in the last two weeks.
If the Bellmont Braves score a victory in their first match, they are likely to face the winner of Western and Rensselaer Central in the semifinal. Coach Tim Myers’ team wrestled both of those squads in last year’s events.
