It was “The Boss,” Bruce Springsteen, who sent a Fort Wayne guitar player on his way.
Hubie Ashcraft, who brings his band back to Decatur Thursday night, says he began playing the guitar at the age of 12. But it was when he was 15 when he saw Springsteen live in Indianapolis that he was sure he wanted to make music his career.
Others he has been influenced by, according to the Fort Wayne resident and Homestead High School graduate, include Merle Haggard, Vince Gill, Van Morrison, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp and Willie Nelson.
Ashcraft’s website says he plays “energetic live shows that include elements of rock, Americana, and country all infused with pop sensibilities, authentic lyrics, and soul.”
The Ashcraft band (photo), which opened the Decatur Chamber’s 2023 Summer Concert Series back on June 1, will perform from 6-9 Thursday on the Madison St. Plaza.
Andrea Curtis, 18, a Bellmont student will take to the stage around 7:30 when the band takes a break. She was scheduled to sing last Thursday but that concert was rained out.
The usual food vendors will be on hand Thursday, Andy’s Coney Bar will be open, and 2 Pour Guys will provide adult beverages.
