After getting off to a slow start this season, Bellmont head golf coach Mike Macke never doubted that his ace player, Meghan Pettibone, would find her swing and get back to playing bogey golf and beyond.
Pettibone rewarded that faith with a fine round of 45-49 for a team-best round of 94 at the Rozella Ford Golf Course against some of the best teams in Northern Indiana Saturday.
The course, which is hilly with sloped greens and quite different from most of the courses the Braves play, was fairly difficult according to Macke.
“Meghan played pretty well,” said Macke. “She didn’t get as many pars as she wanted to, but she also kept a lot of holes to just bogey.
The coach noted that he felt his team hit the ball well, but struggled to score with the short game due to the greens and setup.
After a day of practice Monday, the team will play three conference matches over three days from Tuesday to Thursday before playing in the Bi-County tournament Saturday.
“This is the toughest stretch in terms of getting fatigued,” noted Macke. “But this prepares us for conference and for sectional.
