With just days remaining in a capital drive, Decatur’s Kekionga Project is only $5,000 short of its goal, Mayor Dan Rickord announced at Thursday’s night outdoor concert.
The goal is $50,000. If that is reached by Saturday, August 5, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA)’s CreatINg Places program (also known as Patronicity), will kick in a match of $50,000.

Donations from various individuals and businesses have enabled the city administration to move close to achieving the goal. The drive began in June.
The Kekionga Project has three facets: a) Completing a dog park already started at the former site of the Evergreen Assisted Living facility; b) to finally renovate the old ball diamond (see photo) in Kekionga Park, north of the dog park site; and c) stocking the pond beside the dog park – a popular fishing spot in the city.
The various players who use the Kekionga diamond have raised over $16,000 for the project.
