Jim Morrison came alive on the Madison St. Plaza in Decatur Thursday night. Not literally, but in the rock-solid performance of Nash Stover, whose perfect portrayal of Morrison was frequently applauded by a packed plaza.
As the lead singer of The Ultimate Doors, Stover was a look-alike, act-alike, dressed-alike, sound-alike of the famous singer who died July 3, 1971, at the age of 27.
Stover – a native of Franklin, Ohio – showed all the Morrison mannerisms (see photo). He rolled around on the stage, jumped off the stage, sang while smoking a cigarette, and waved his arms every which way.
The Doors’ top hits graced the two-hour performance, from “People are Strange” to “LA Woman”; from “Love Me Two Times” to “Break On Through”; from “Light My Fire” to “Hello I Love You.”
The band headed for Grand Rapids, Michigan, the next night, then to Indianapolis on Saturday. The following weekend they are scheduled to perform in Delaware, Virginia Beach, and Hopewell, Virginia on consecutive nights.
The show began with the latest performance by a local singer. Ava Elaine Rash (photo), a 20-year-old senior at Purdue Fort Wayne, delighted the crowd.
Next Thursday will see Section Ate performing classic rock to country music on the plaza, starting at 7 p.m.
