Ideal weather helped bring out a huge crowd for Thursday night’s opening of the Decatur Chamber’s 2023 Summer Concert Series on the Madison St. Plaza.
Temperatures hovered in the high 80s and humidity in only the 20s as the popular Hubie Ashcraft band performed for nearly three hours.
During Ashcraft’s only break, Lola Sparks and the Pinkeyes, three Bellmont High School students – Vivian Garcia-Mendez, Lucy Lichtle and Addi Johnson – took the stage and rocked out, beginning with “Crazy Train”, to the delight of the crowd.
The Chamber and city have invited youth bands and/or singers to perform during intermissions at this year’s concerts. Those interested should contact Community Coordinator Jamie Gephart, 724-7171, or jgephart@decaturin.org
The Fort Wayne-based Ashcraft band and its barefoot drummer, Seve William Sullivan-Doyle, performed a wide variety of music on opening night, from country, to contemporary to hard rock.
The band will return to the plaza on August 24.
Another highly popular band around here, the Sweetwater All-Stars, will be on the plaza stage next Thursday.
