In a game with just seven hits, it was the outstanding pitching of Addie Baker that made the difference as Adams Central won at home against interstate rival Parkway, 3-0.Â
Baker struck out twelve and allowed just one walk to pick up the victory. The Panthers had just three hits, with the first base knock coming in the fifth inning. Back-to-back singles with one out in the top of the seventh created an opportunity for the visitors, but Baker induced two ground outs to end the ballgame.
Athena Schwartz led off the second with a walk and then scored after stealing a bag when Brooke Thomas singled to left, giving the Jets a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Sydney Jauregui and Jenna Cook hit back-to-back doubles and Cook eventually scored on a bases-loaded walk to Thomas. The rally could have been bigger for Adams Central but Athena Schwartz was out at home on a failed bunt attempt on a squeeze play by the Jets.
The win pushes the Jets’ record to 16-2 as they prepare for Thursday’s game at home against South Adams.
