24 hours after a crushing defeat at Heritage on a walk-off home run, the South Adams Starfires got back into the batter’s box and shut out the Union City Indians 8-0, with Peyton Pries bashing another home run and working four scoreless innings for the win.
The Starfires hit UC starter Shannen Smith early and often, tagging her for all eight runs before she could record an out in the fifth.Â
The big fly for Pries came after Union City was not ready for Macy Pries and her bunting expertise. The Starfires leadoff hitter reached and Peyton hit her fourth home run of the year to left field.Â
Peyton struck out three and allowed just three hits in her four shutout innings, then made way for Gracy Bixler to score the three-inning save. Bixler was lights out, striking out four and setting down the first seven batters faced before allowing a meaningless double with one out in the seventh.Â
Bekah Patterson finished the game 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and it was also a good game for the three batters after Peyton Pries in the batting order. Sofia Schwartz, Cora Baker and Shea Alberson each had two hits in the winning effort.
The Starfires will throw everything they have at the Bellmont Braves Friday night on a game set to be broadcast on WZBD. A win would set up the Starfires for a late-season showdown with Adams Central for the title of county champs.Â
