A major project to replace a water main in the southern part of Decatur “is moving along well,” Utilities Manager Kevin Hackman told city council at its latest meeting.
The project encompasses an area involving S. Fifth St., “crooked” Elm St. from Winchester St. to Line St., Niblick St. and Lopez Lane.
Not only is a main being replaced, but Hackman said at a previous meeting that water services in the area will be scrutinized and some older lines may be removed, possibly from the main to homes.
“So that area will be completely revamped,” Hackman told council.
The project is being done now in anticipation of streets in that area being repaved this summer as part of a new Community Crossings program.
Hackman also noted at the last meeting that bids for the painting of the water tower in that area, off Line St., should be available at council’s May 2 meeting.
