Stuffed animals rained down on the ice at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne Friday night as the Komets hockey team held its 10th annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit children and others.

Fans bring new and gently-used stuffed animals to the game and toss them into the ice when the Komets score their first goal.
It didn’t take long Friday as Nolan Volcan scored just 48 seconds into the game. An estimated 3,000 teddy bears and stuffed animals of all sizes and shapes came pouring out of the stands from a crowd of 8,491.
Fort Wayne players – using their hockey sticks – and volunteers then spent a lengthy period of time scooping up everything.

The stuffed animals will be turned over to the Disorderly Bear Den chapter in Fort Wayne as well as Lutheran Children’s Hospital, and will then go to children in trauma situations and lonely adults.
The Disorderly Bear Den of Good Bears of the World is an international organization.
The Teddy Bear Toss began well over 10 years ago and has spread throughout hockey in the U.S. and Canada, and into other sports as well.
