One week after a thunderstorm hit the Madison St. Plaza, a thunderstorm of a different nature struck the popular downtown Decatur showplace on Thursday.

Thunderstruck, an AC/DC tribute band, electrified perhaps the largest crowd of the season, it’s booming energy lighting up those who ignored near-90-degree temperatures.
The sweltering heat had no effect on the band, whose pounding renditions portrayed AC/DC at its best.
Kyle LaPato was all over the place (see photo) – once going deep into the crowd – portraying Angus Young in his schoolboy outfit. Bobby Lee Stamper’s vocals and mannerisms brought back memories of both Bon Scott and Brian Johnson.

Drummer Corey Baetz didn’t let up as Kevin Feller on rhythm guitar and Chris Jones on bass produced sounds of the New Zealand band of the ’80s and ’90s.
Despite the heat, the band paused just twice in two hours, once to praise the country’s military and veterans, and a bit later when there was an injury in the crowd.
According to reports, a woman who was dancing tripped over a chair and fell. She was taken away by EMS with what was speculated to be a broken wrist or arm.
The night’s entertainment began with 17-year-old Marshall Turner performing “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars.
Thunderstruck was off to Morgantown, West Virginia, after leaving Decatur and was scheduled to play Nashport, Ohio, on Saturday. Next week, band is in Wisconsin and South Dakota.
And for those who would like to enjoy more Thunderstruck, the rockers will play the Clyde theater in Fort Wayne on Sept. 11. But that one will cost you an admission fee!
