David J. Witte, 82, of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on September 27, 1943 in Decatur, Indiana to the late Donald K. and Norma E. (McCoy) Witte.
Dave was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #420, Monroeville.
Dave was a 1961 graduate of Monroeville High School. After High School, he worked for 36 years as a fork lift driver for Food Marketing Corporation, until his retirement on May 31, 2002. During his working career, he was also a member of the Teamsters Local 414.
Dave enjoyed fishing. For decades, he went on multiple trips each year to Pine River, Minnesota, where the fishing was fantastic. Another of Dave’s treasured hobbies was following anything Purdue. He could usually be found seeking out a game to watch in the evening.
Survivors include his son, Dennis Witte of Columbia City, Indiana; daughter, Shelley R. Witte of New Haven, Indiana; grandson, Dalton Johnstone of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandson, Jacob Witte of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Aaron Witte of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and granddaughter, Jessica Witte of Fort Wayne; nephews, Donald Witte of Monroeville, Indiana and Robert Witte of Monroeville, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Ned T. Witte and Steven (Cheryl) Witte and a nephew, Greg Witte.
In following Dave’s wishes, there will be no services. Following cremation, inurnment will be in Monroeville Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be given to American Legion Post #420.
