A big showdown between county teams in girls varsity tennis went the way of the home Bellmont Braves Thursday, as coach Mason Vrablic’s team swept the singles matches in straight sets for a 4-1 victory overall.
Most notable in singles play was the run of Bellmont No. 1 Emma Fuelling, who trailed 5-2 in the second set to Olivia Oswalt, the SA ace, before taking five straight games to clinch her first career victory at No. 1.
Lillian Jin also got her maiden varsity win at the No. 2 spot and Lilyana Suarez, who has made the switch from doubles play, took her first singles victory, both in straight sets.
Calah Hill and Kyleigh Habegger were the lone winners in varsity play for the visiting Starfires. They won a first-set tiebreaker and then cruised through the second set.
Ella Ross and Averie Coats pushed their season record at No. 1 Dubs to 3-0.
Coach Vrablic also noted a strong performance in the JV segment by doubles pair Elle Laurent and Paige Black.
