Featuring a rematch of last year’s regional semifinals, the Bellmont Braves went to Concordia Wednesday night and sought their third straight victory as they try to stake their claim to being the best 2A school in the Fort Wayne area.

The clash with the Cadets was one with a wild start as both teams scored twice in a matter of just ten minutes, but after things settled down, the Braves showed their superiority, especially in the finishing department, and rolled to a 4-2 victory.

Bellmont, ranked #7 in the most recent state poll in 2A, got goals from Oni Krueckeberg (for the third straight game), Lilly Alberding, Ashley Bleke and Kaitlyn Barton.
“It was an interesting game,” admitted coach Steve Lee. “After we made some adjustments, they never scored again.”

Keeping the Cadets out of the net for the final 70 minutes was Emily Barton, who made 14 saves in her own personal revenge game after being injured by the Cadets in last year’s regional game.

Both of Concordia’s goals came from junior Kori Brown, who now has 14 in just seven games.
“She’s the best player I’ve ever coached against,” claimed Lee.

The two teams have had contrasting seasons, with Bellmont playing four tough opponents, all ending with losses, and now three victories. Concordia won their four opening games, but have now lost to North Side, Leo and Bellmont in the last week.

The Braves will play #10 in 4A Carroll on Monday in another big match. That one can be heard live on 92.7 FM.
