A two-out, seventh-inning home run by Taylor Bauer was the only consolation prize for the Bellmont Braves on their trip to conference-leading Leo Wednesday night. The Lions moved to 4-0 in the NE8 as Leah Shappell stymied the Braves, holding them to two hits. Leo won the game 4-1.
Shappell did what she usually does against top teams, inducing ground balls and keeping the ball in the park, while striking out just one batter in six innings, allowing just two hits.
The Braves played a good game against an intimidating opponent, holding Leo to four runs despite giving up eleven hits. Bellmont ace Bella Ashley struck out two and walked one.
Emily Bleke and Liz Bobay had the only other hits for the Braves, both singles.
Bellmont will make up their rainout from earlier in the week against Huntington North on Thursday at home.
