Homestead only outhit Heritage (7-6) Wednesday night, but came away with a 4-1 victory in non-conference play over the Patriots.
In a matchup between two aces – Heritage’s Danica Fuller vs. Homestead’s Maddy Burbrink – it was the clutch hitting of the Spartans that ultimately made the difference.

Three of the four Spartan runs came on RBI base hits with runners in scoring position, while the other came on a groundout with the runner at third base.

Danica Fuller had seven strikeouts, many of them snuffing out Homestead rallies. She walked two and stranded five runners.

Both hurlers also served as their team’s leadoff hitter. Fuller was held in check by Burbrink for a rare, one-hit night by the Patriot spark plug. Burbrink had a double and an RBI off Fuller, striking out once.

Heritage will shake off the loss to 4A Homestead and look to take advantage of a game against an Adams Central team that is down on hard times Thursday.
