Several outstanding performances by Bellmont freshmen, coupled with some outstanding sophomores, led to a very big victory for the Braves in their opening outdoor meet against Adams Central.
The meet was also a welcome return for coach Carl Risch and his team to competing at home on the newly-renovated facility in Decatur.

Notes & Times
-Khia Cannon’s outdoor senior season got off to a strong start as she was the winner in the 100 with a hand-timed finish of 13.1 – a career best for the Bellmont sprinter if accurate. Teammate Lanie French also had a very strong hand-clocked time, giving the Braves a strong 1-2 punch this season.
-French won the 200 with a career-best time of 29.4. She was followed closely by her basketball teammate, Ashley Bleke, who completed her first outdoor varsity 200 faster than anyone on the Braves’ team in the last few years other than French and Cannon.
-Bleke won the 400 with a time that has only been bettered by Quinn Buchan in the last three years on the Bellmont team. Buchan was less than a second behind Bleke in second for the Braves.

-Another freshman, Kaitlyn Barton, also made a big splash in her outdoor debut, running the mile in crazy-fast fashion. Barton’s 6:07 was ten seconds faster than any Bellmont female in the last three seasons and it came in the opening heat of the year.
-Freshman Mary Bleke added 32 inches to her best shot put in the indoor season. Bleke had already bettered every Bellmont thrower in years (except Hailey Cole) in her first couple of varsity attempts. Cole is the only thrower in Adams County in the last three years to better Bleke’s mark of 35-06 from Thursday night.
-Ashlyn Doster and Alyssa Garwood each had career bests in the shot put for the Jets.
-The top two discus throws for the Braves came from freshmen, with Mary Bleke winning with a distance of 78-08 and Braelyn Radecki coming back from offseason knee surgery for an impressive fourth-place finish with a 69-06.
