Rita K. Combs, 68, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Monday evening, December 30, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Hartford City, IN, on September 1, 1956, the daughter of the late Kenneth E. and P. JoAnn (Meyer) Shannon. On April 24, 1982, Rita married Jesse Edward Combs.
She was currently working at Fresh New Start and was babysitting. She loved spending time with and raising her grandchildren. Rita was also employed at Decatur Wire Die for 10 years, Fleetwood for 8 years, and worked at Taco Bell and retired from there.
Rita never knew a stranger! She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed attending Adams Central sporting events
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ed Combs of Decatur; 3 children, Jen (Ray) Soto and Josh (Lindsey) Combs both of Decatur & Jessica Brown of Montpelier; her mother-in-law, Cheryl Combs of Decatur; 4 siblings, Deb Shannon of Decatur, Rick (Tam) Shannon of Mendon, OH, Pat Shannon and Carri Shannon both of Decatur; a brother-in-law, Kurt (Marie) Combs of Monroe; 10 grandchildren, Ciara Dunifon, Ovelia Robertson, Elijah Robertson, Keagen Combs, Kolten Combs, Karsen Combs, Kamden Combs, MaKinsley “Mak” Combs, Trent Brown and Kaden Brown; numerous nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Cindy “Sam” Hitner; father-in-law, Jesse Combs; mother-in-law, Catherine Coffey; brother-in-law, Delmer Combs.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with visitation an hour before the service from Noon – 1:00 p.m. Pastor Zach Oedewaldt will be officiating and burial will follow in the Decatur Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the family to help cover expenses.
Arrangements are entrusted to Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
